Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my dog try to resist going to the groomers?
It is not uncommon for dogs to dislike going to a pet groomer. Some will struggle to stand or sit for long periods of time. Some will dislike being bathed, having their front legs clipped, or having their nails trimmed.
I will ask you a lot of questions when you dog first comes to my grooming salon to help me get a better understanding of their likes and dislikes, so I can handle them better. If you dog gets extreme anxious, it may be worthwhile splitting up their grooming appointment into two visits.
When should I get my dog groomed?
If you have a puppy, then it is advisable to get them groomed after their second vaccination. I will work with you and your puppy to get them used to new noises and smells on a gradual basis.

If your dog has long fur and is prone to knots and tangles, then it is advisable to bring them into the salon as often as possible to maintain the quality of the coat for their comfort.

If your dog moults , then a good de-shedding groom will worthwhile and will help keep on top of the coat maintenance and reduce the amount of fur in your home!
My double coated dog gets hot in the summer, can I have the coat clipped off?
You should never clip off the coat of a double coated dog, as they need their coat to protect them from the elements, both cold and hot. If you clip off the undercoat, it may never grow back properly, grow back in patches, come back in a different colour, or not come back at all. A lot of dog owners, think that their dogs are struggling in the hotter weather due to their coats, but they actually need their coats to regulate their temperature.
I like my dog's coat long, and I know he has matts but I don't want it cut short, can I leave them in?
Matts are a big problem for a lot of dogs and can cause a variety of skin and health problems, matted fur does not allow for air circulation to the skin, causing hot spots, bacterical and fungal infections. Fleas and ticks and other parasites may also be present in the coat. Sticker burrs or other objects may have become tangled in the coat causing pain and irritation or sores. Matted fur also pulls and binds the skin causing pain to your pet when they move or lay down. If your dog has a coat that easily gets knotted there will be knots hiding everywhere, your dog may not want to be brushed out so your only option is to start fresh. If a longer coat is desired you will need to bring your dog to be groomed more regularly for maintenance.
